Local nominees anticipate challenging November race
Despite predictable wins in yesterday's primaries, local nominees are anticipating a lively run in the November elections.

    PennDOT says state roads improved
    Pennsylvania drivers are having the smoothest ride in years, according to state officials. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced last week that ride quality on Pennsylvania interstates improved dramatically last year.

    Spring Week to end term on high note
    Fun people are wanted. Spring Week 2000, an annual festival sponsored by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils, kicks off today and runs through Sunday.

    Dorm lounge furniture theft common
    The theft of furniture and other items from Penn State lounges and commons areas is a crime that could lead to criminal charges and jeopardize a student's status with the university, Penn State Police Services assistant supervisor Bernadette Bland said.

    Simply Kind stops pipe sales
    In the wake of a police raid last week at Simply Kind's Indiana, Pa., store, the chain's supervisors are requesting a discussion with State College officials in order to ensure a similar incident does not happen at its local store, 224 W. College Ave.

    Stirrups. For many young women, it is a word steeped with embarrassment and anxiety. A new 1 1/2-hour program, Smart Start, can ease this by educating women before their first gynecological exam.

    CATA accident leaves two students with minor injuries
    A Centre Area Transportation Authority bus collided with another vehicle at about 11 a.m. yesterday at Atherton Street and Park Avenue, causing minor injuries to two bus passengers, said Sgt. Scott Ohs of the State College Police Department.

    First floor of HUB to be open later during finals week
    Students preparing for final exams this semester will have more late-night access to the HUB-Robeson Cultural Center, thanks to a bill passed by the Undergraduate Student Government Senate last night.

    CATA resumes routes after transformer explosion
    The Centre Area Transportation Authority announced yesterday the W and ES buses would resume using their route on Martin Street, according to a CATA press release.

    Penn professor to give speech about Civil War deaths
    Drew Gilpin Faust, Annenberg Professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania, will give a speech titled "Peculiar Conditions and Necessities: The Civil War Soldier and the Art of Dying" at 7:30 p.m. Monday in 121 Sparks.

    Main Event to take place today in HUB Auditorium
    Network Event Theatre will present MainEvent from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in the HUB Auditorium.

    The Penn State baseball team all awoke to the same gray and drizzling skies this morning, but their predictions for what the afternoon held varied.
