Annual mall auction to benefit Dance Marathon

Various items will be up for sale at the Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon Annual Mall Auction.

The mall auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Nittany Mall located on East College Avenue.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Four Diamonds Fund of the Hershey Medical Center, which benefits children being treated for cancer.

According to Walt Breuninger, overall public relations chair for Thon 2000, items being auctioned off include a Dave Matthews autographed CD and poster, a baseball autographed by Derek Jeter, and a football autographed by Joe Paterno.

Other items include a semester of books from the Student Book Store, 330 E. College Ave., 48-hour floor passes to Thon 2000, a Cancun spring break trip, four $1,000 gift certificates to the Kaplan Educational Center and a variety of other prizes.

This year is the 29th year for the dance marathon.

Thon is the largest student-run philanthropy in the nation and, according to Breuninger, the largest contributor to the Four Diamonds Fund, making up 86 percent of all donations in 1999.
