Local banks react to interest rate hike
The Dow Jones Industrial Average shot up more than 150 points yesterday, minutes after the Federal Reserve Board decided to raise interest rates on short-term loans from 4.75 percent to five percent.

Local job hunt frustrates students
Finding a job in the real word is hard. Finding a summer job in State College can be even harder. Restaurants have "help wanted" signs outside their windows, but retail stores are limiting the number of people they hire.

Calvin Booth put in his five years of time for the Penn State men's basketball team, but it was time to move on. Yesterday was the first day of Booth's new career in the National Basketball League, as he became the highest-drafted player in Penn State history.

Williams resigns from Penn State
After coaching for nine years, Penn State women's lacrosse coach Julie Williams announced yesterday she is resigning her position as head coach, en lieu of her upcoming marriage in September.

McQueary rejoins Lions
A State College native and former Penn State starting quarterback, McQueary joined the Nittany Lions coaching staff as an administrative assistant. His position began May 3.

Lions get off to quick start in recruiting war
With 25 scholarships available for the recruiting class of 2000, Penn State has started early with eleven verbal commitments.
