Jazz, country to raise da roof
While some students might go home this weekend to celebrate religious holidays with their families, other students will be spending their time in State College. What is a student to do when the university calms down for this quiet weekend? Go to HUB Late Night, of course. This weekend, the HUB will sponsor two local music groups, each of a different genre. Stone Poets, a local alternative country band, will make its way to the HUB ground floor at 10 tonight. Led by Kris Kehr, Stone Poets will broaden their horizons beyond the local scene this summer with the release of their first album. The Christopher Byrne Quartet will bring its jazzy sound at 10 p.m. tomorrow to the HUB ground floor. Byrne, a research associate at Penn State, and his band have been a veteran part of the local music scene for a long time now. "Both groups are exceptional local bands that are on par with some of the other groups that have come to the university," said John Harlow, assistant director of student activities. --by Kathryn Graham
