Meeting space a new concern

By NIKKI VELISARISbio

Due to the renovation project at the HUB, two meeting rooms, 204 and 305 HUB, will close today.

These rooms mostly are used by administrative offices and not student organizations, said Betsy Boyer, event management coordinator at the HUB. This is because organizations that reserve the rooms must pay for them, she added.

The Office of Unions and Student Activities was aware of the closings in advance and purposely did not book them.

Many of the programs that would have taken place in 305 HUB will be transferred to the Gallery Lounge.

"We've managed to find alternative meeting places," said Diane Andrews, associate director of the Office of Residence Life.

Many areas are booked due to construction at the HUB so many organizations are making appointments in advance to ensure they find meeting space, she added.

"There are going to be some inconveniences for the next few months, but in order to have progress, everyone has to be inconvenienced a little," said Carol German, assistant director of student activities.

Event management at the HUB has been urging people to make arrangements early because the schedule for Fall 1999 most likely will be booked .

"Space is tight," said Stan Latta, director of Unions and Student Activities.

"People just need to look around more to find it."
