New Web site dedicated to campus life

Most students get the "There's nothing good to do" blues sometime after renting movie No. 400 and right before they've been to a party in every apartment building in State College. Now those students can fight monotony and boredom by expanding their entertainment search area.

The World Wide Web site www.CampusParty.com provides college students with options from campuses all across the country.

Sean C. Sheridan and his roommate, both students at the University of Pennsylvania, developed the CampusParty.com idea because they wanted to create a Web site for college students.

The site offers students a place to post upcoming campus events at their colleges while browsing events they may wish to attend at other universities.

"We've been having a great response," Sheridan said. "There have been 20,000 hits to the site last month, which was in its first full month."

For students looking for something to do, using key words such as "State College," "music" or "Drexel" will provide the browser with a list of events for that location or specific category. For students who want to advertise events, a short form must be completed with information such as the event's description, location, time and date.

Penn State student Justine Lee, vice president social chair for Alpha Kappa Delta Phi sorority, used CampusParty.com to advertise "Purple Passion," a dance party her sorority was hosting.

"I liked the Web site and was really surprised by it," said Lee, who found out about the site through e-mail.

With time and organization, and after more area clubs become aware of the service, Lee believes the site will be successful.

Sheridan hopes to raise the visibility of CampusParty.com across campuses nationwide. He plans to advance the site's status to include party reviews, stories and anything interesting to college students.

"I want suggestions from students because this is a place for them to hang out," Sheridan said.
