Improvisation premieres
Seven acts will take the stage at 8 p.m. today for "An Evening of Improvisation" at the Music Building's Recital Hall. The ensembles -- odd combinations of piano, trumpet, trombone, organ and cello -- will punch out jazz, classical and freeform music. The event springs from the creative effort of Doug Fisk (senior-music), who coordinated the recital as part of his honors thesis and bachelor of arts project for the School of Music. "It's very avant-garde," Fisk said. "There's lots left up to the performer. It's pretty wild, actually." One ensemble features a small team of dancers, which accompanies Fisk on piano and Kort Eckman (senior-computer engineering) on cello. Another distinguished guest is assistant music professor Anthony Leach, scheduled to take the organ by storm as the second act. Admission to this event is free. -- by Nikki Petrowicz
