KORN, Rob Zombie bring rock, rap to Jordan Center
By JAMES CONROY
It's time to hide your children and lock your doors, as two of the most intense bands in rock are ready to converge on State College. At 7:30 tonight, rock/rap hybrid KORN and shock-rocker Rob Zombie will join forces at The Bryce Jordan Center for the "Rock Is Dead Tour." Since its second album, Life Is Peachy, KORN has built a strong following by advancing the rock/rap formula of Rage Against the Machine to the next level. Proving the success of Life Is Peachy wasn't a fluke, KORN's latest release, Follow the Leader, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. The band's choice of attire and songs such as "A.D.I.D.A.S." have done for the sneaker company what Run-DMC and their song "My Adidas" did in the early '80s. Coming off of the successful "Family Values Tour," on which KORN shared the billing with acts as diverse as Rammstein and Ice Cube, the band now shares the stage with the dark sounds of Rob Zombie. Former frontman of the metal act White Zombie, Rob Zombie has broken out on his own. After the success of White Zombie and hits like "More Human Than Human," Zombie released his first solo album late last year. The album's first single, "Dragula," didn't receive much airplay. However, another of the band's songs, "Hellbilly Deluxe," debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard chart, proving Zombie is still one of the most successful rockers today. The "Rock Is Dead Tour" is not the first time these two acts have met on stage. Zombie appeared on the "Family Values Tour" with KORN for a few concert dates. The "Rock Is Dead" show promises audiences to be as visually stunning as it is aurally. To assist in the entertainment, the two performers will share the stage with others such as giant robots and a cage full of contest-winners hovering above the stage.
