Preliminary hearings
BELLEFONTE -- Retired Penn State professor Julian Heicklen, 67, was bound over for trial yesterday on two misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The charges stem from two separate incidents last week, both of which occurred outside of Wal-Mart, 373 Benner Pike, according to court documents. Heicklen allegedly was soliciting Friday outside the store. Because the activity is against Wal-Mart policy, he was ordered by management to leave at least twice, but refused to do so. An officer then was called to the store, at which point Heicklen still refused to leave. He then was placed under arrest. Heicklen allegedly returned on Saturday to Wal-Mart and continued to hand out political material. Again, he refused to stop soliciting after management ordered him to do so. An officer repeatedly asked Heicklen to leave, at which point he fell motionless on the sidewalk. He failed to move upon request and was carried away by police.
