Golfers get six days to ready for tournament

Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye looks for an impressive showing as he leads his Nittany Lions into Ocala, Fla., for a spring break tournament next week.

The Lions will try to take advantage of having six days to practice in the Sunshine State before teeing off in the Golden Ocala Tournament. Last week, a somewhat rusty Penn State team finished 18th overall in the Puerto Rico Classic against a field that included 10 teams ranked in the top 20 nationally.

Although it has a very young team -- junior Matt Abbott, in only his second year of eligibility, is the team's most experienced player -- Nye feels it will be able to rebound quickly from last week's performance.

"I look for our team to do some things more in sync with how we played (last fall) in the Northern Intercollegiate, the Legends of Indiana and the Anchor Bank in South Carolina," Nye said. The team placed second overall at the Northern Intercollegiate and then fifth and third in Indiana and South Carolina, respectively.
