Ben Folds Five to perform at Movin' On's 25th birthday
The piano has played an integral part in many a musician's career. Billy Joel, for example, immortalized the instrument in his hit song "Piano Man." For our generation, however, Ben Folds Five has made piano-playing a success of its own. On April 24, Ben Folds Five will make its first appearance in Happy Valley as the headlining act at "Movin' On '99." "Movin' On '99" is an all-day free event held on Pollock Fields to celebrate the end of the school year. In addition to Ben Folds Five, there will be other musical acts, an inflatable amusement park and free giveaways. Sponsored by the Association of Residence Halls Students, this will be the 25th anniversary of "Movin' On." "Our 25th anniversary installment will be the finest ever," Brian Youngblood, "Movin' On '99" director. Ben Folds Five, a group known for the unique piano playing of its namesake, had minimal success after forming in its hometown of Chapel Hill, N.C. With the release of the hit single, "Brick," the group has since earned a gold record for its album Whatever and Ever Amen and toured with Dave Matthews Band last summer. -- by Kathryn Graham
