Preliminary hearings
BELLEFONTE -- Rebersburg resident Fred Johnson, 34, was bound over for trial yesterday on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. The charges stem from an incident in which he allegedly shot a single bullet from a pistol in front of his residence. The bullet hit a stray cat near the house, according to court documents. Upon exiting the cat, the bullet bounced off an unidentified object and struck the corner of a nearby house. The bullet passed through the house and hit an antique mirror, according to the documents. Johnson admitted to having shot the cat from his front porch because it was a "nuisance." One count of reckless endangerment was dismissed yesterday. The charges stem from a January confrontation involving Seals and another male on the 800 block of Stratford Drive, according to court documents. A male and his female friend arrived in a taxi. The man escorted the woman into her residence while the taxi driver waited outside. When the man returned, he saw a jeep parked by the taxi and heard the jeep driver, Seals, arguing with the taxi driver. Seals then began to yell at the taxi passenger, lunged forward and grabbed him. Seals allegedly struck the victim several times in the face and pinned him to the ground, according to the documents. In self-defense, the victim bit Seals' hand, at which point Seals charged the victim and bit a portion of the victim's left ear off. The victim said he remembered a man and a woman pulling Seals away from him, ending the confrontation. A charge of aggravated assault was dismissed yesterday.
