Keg Party to hold first official meeting tonight in Pollock
The Keg Party will hold its first official meeting at 9 p.m. today in the Pollock Cultural Lounge, said Robert Hyneman, Keg Party president. The group has invited Scott Conklin and Julian Heicklen to speak at the meeting. Both are running for Centre County Commissioner in the 1999 elections. Despite another meeting he has the same night, Conklin said he will try to attend. Heicklen said he plans to attend the meeting and will talk about general libertarian principles overlapping with the Keg Party's goals. While he said he is neither for nor against the Keg Party, Conklin said he is interested in talking with the members and hearing their views. "I'm excited to see any group of students get involved in politics," he said. Hyneman said the party will not endorse any candidates but will allow any candidates not competing with the Keg Party the opportunity to speak at its meetings. The group also will elect its officers, make minor changes to its constitution and discuss what to do in the coming weeks, he said. This is the group's first meeting after being officially recognized as an organization by the Undergraduate Student Government Supreme Court. The meeting is open to anyone who would like to attend.
