Boxers sweep tourney in Shippensburg

The Penn State boxing team dominated its competition Saturday at the 3rd-annual Red Raider Tournament at Shippensburg.

In the 125-pound match, Penn State's Anthony Mariato decisioned Lock Haven's Jeff Kerby, 3-0.

In the 139-pound match, Penn State's Misha Kirsanov decisioned Army's Daniel Aria, 2-1.

The 147-pound match between Penn State's Kurt Decker and the Naval Academy's Daryl Horton ended with Decker winning via a third round technical knockout.

At 195 pounds, Penn State's Briama Cooper decisioned Shippensburg's Leon Wilkerson, 3-0.

Penn State heavyweight Rick Slater stopped Navy's Mark Hermanson in the second round -- another fight won by Penn State.

"There's been improvement every week," Penn State coach Bill Wrable said. "This was a good week for us, because of the quality of the competition we faced."

The boxers are off this weekend, but travel to the Virginia Military Academy on Feb. 20 for the VMI Keydet Collegiate Invitational.
