Nominations accepted for innovative teachers
The Most Innovative Teacher Award, which rewards a professor who has implemented original and creative ideas in the classroom, began accepting student nominations this week. The award will encourage people to discuss innovation in education as well as demonstrate to faculty members which techniques appeal to students, said Liz Kinland, Undergraduate Student Government Academic Assembly vice president. Kinland described innovation as new techniques that help students learn new material by relating it to what they already know. The award finalists will be selected in the spring and invited with the students who nominated them to a reception where the winner will be announced. This year, students can nominate professors through the World Wide Web at www.clubs.psu.edu/usg/acadassembly/teacheraward.htm. The deadline is March 5. --by Kate Dailey
