Student arrested for shooting
A Penn State student was arrested for attempted murder Saturday in Bethlehem in relation to a shooting early Saturday morning in front of Nittany Crossing Apartments, 601 Vairo Blvd. Chad E. Poplawski, 21, is accused of firing at least seven bullets from what is thought to be a semi-automatic military-style rifle in front of Building 8 of the apartment complex. The shooting took place, according to witnesses, following a brawl that got out of hand. The seven located bullets hit a student's unoccupied car in the parking lot. No reports of injuries have been filed, Patton Township Police Department said. About 10 people in their late teens or early twenties are thought to be involved in the brawl. Two cars were seen exiting the lot after the shooting took place, although Poplawski, a resident of the complex, was not in either one. He was later found in Bethlehem with Andre Cuadrado, 21, a resident of Bethlehem who was arrested for hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence. It is unknown whether alcohol was involved in the incident. --by Beth Lucas
