Indoor track meet falls victim to winter storm
The Penn State women's indoor track team received an unexpected break this weekend as the winter storm that caused problems across the Northeast brought about the cancellation of the team's scheduled trip to Kent, Ohio for the Golden Flash Invitational. While Penn State coaches had not received word on whether the meet itself would be postponed, they decided last Thursday afternoon to abandon the trip for safety reasons. The team was to depart on two separate buses, one leaving Thursday morning and the other on Thursday evening, but the coaches decided around 2:30 p.m. to stay home. In lieu of their meet, the team endured what senior Cara Madzy called, "a very hard but beneficial practice." "If we had to miss a meet, this was a good one to miss," said Madzy. "It allows us to prepare for a bigger meet next week at Virginia Tech." Next week's Pepsi Indoor Track Invitational gets underway at 5 p.m. Friday in Blacksburg, Va. --by Mike Mitstifer
