Weather Highlight Cold air flowing over the relatively warmer Great Lakes has made lake effect snowstorms a theme this winter. In Buffalo alone, 45.5 inches of snow have fallen in January prompting a State of Emergency in the city. The National Guard has been called into the city to help remove the snow.
