State College police officially attributed the July 12 riot to too many people abusing alcohol.


Two overdose on 'date rape' drug; details 'sketchy'
Two 20-year-old Penn State male students were taken to Centre Community Hospital in late July after ingesting GHB, also called a "date rape" drug, according to a press release from the State College Police Department.

Expansion of stadium to begin after football season
The Beaver Stadium Expansion and Renovation Project will add about 10,000 seats, raising the stadium's capacity to 103,500, including the addition of 58 skyboxes.

Low tuition hike continues to mystify students
Although this year's 3.7 percent increase in tuition represents the lowest raise in eight years, many students are wondering how long tuition will remain on the rise.
Into the great wide open
Last year at this time, Curtis Enis, Joe Jurevicius and Mike McQueary were wearing blue and white. This year they are fighting for jobs in the NFL.
It's Troy's horse now
On Aug. 1 Nittany Lion All-American wrestler Troy Sunderland replaced wrestling coach John Fritz, who resigned June 8 because of personal, physical and professional reasons and accepted a position as an administrator.


Robbins sentenced up to 60 years in jail
HUB lawn shooter Jillian Robbins, who killed one student and injured another in the fall of 1996, will spend the next 30 to 60 years in prison as a result of a plea agreement reached in May in Centre County Court.

Campus construction complete in some areas
The largest construction projects continue to be the HUB/Paul Robeson Cultural Center Expansion Project and the Paterno Library at Pattee.

Fraternity begins recovery from summer fire damage
Fraternity members at Phi Kappa Psi have begun moving back into their house at 403 Locust Lane, which suffered extensive damage as a result of a structure fire that broke out early July 3.

The State College summer theater scene featured award-winning plays and, in one play, a nationally known actor.


Summertime blues cured with concert line-up
