Write-in ticket loses campaign privileges

The write-in ticket for Undergraduate Student Government president and vice president, Kornelius P. Spankum and Kendra Ciesla (junior-advertising), will not be able to participate in tonight's debate or appear in Wednesday's voter guide published in The Daily Collegian.

Responding to criticism within USG, the Elections Commission decided to file a campaign violation with the Elections Court to remove Spankum from events and publications sponsored by the commission because Spankum is a not registered student, said Head Elections Commissioner Tracy Greca.

Spankum's real identity is not known because he has only appeared in a gorilla costume during the campaign.

USG Elections Guide The ticket chose not to appear before the court, but decided to settle the violation with the commission.

The commission gave the campaign two choices: Spankum could either remain anonymous and forfeit participation in campaign privileges or make public Spankum's real identity and be able to participate, Greca said.

The campaign decided Spankum's real identity should remain anonymous, said Clarence Watt, Spankum's campaign manager.
