Oscar flicks may soon hit video stores
Titanic fans will have to wait quite a while for their ship to
come in.
The water-logged epic is just one of several Oscar-nominated movies
still playing in theaters, along with As Good As It Gets, Good
Will Hunting and several re-released features, including L.A.
Confidential.
However, other 1997 Oscar nominees are either available on video
already (including Donnie Brasco, The Full Monty and In &
Out) or are on their way.
Here's list of what's confirmed, though keep in mind the video
industry often rearranges release schedules at the last minute:
Ulee's Gold -- March 24
Boogie Nights -- April 7
L.A. Confidential -- April 14
Mrs. Brown -- April 21
As Good As It Gets -- May 19
The Wings of the Dove -- June 16
Other nominees, including Amistad and Good Will Hunting, will
most likely appear in late May or early June, with other hit titles
to pop up over the course of the summer.
Also available to rent are several noteworthy titles that failed
to score nominations yet received critical acclaim, including
Eve's Bayou, Breakdown and In the Company of Men.
And don't launch those lifeboats to the video store yet: Titanic
it still selling out theaters across the country, and, if it follows
the pattern of other successful video releases, most likely will
not make it to your living room until the holidays.
