Zeta Psi fraternity to move back into house

Pack the suitcases and call U-Haul.

In late May, Zeta Psi fraternity, 142 McAllister St., will move to its former residence at 225 E. Foster Ave., currently occupied by Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. The latter fraternity's lease expired this year.

"We decided not to renew and void the current lease because our current residence is not up to our standards of a quality fraternity environment," said Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity president Jay Getto. "This house was a temporary living situation."

When Zeta Psi fraternity was shut down in 1994 because of low membership, it leased its house to Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity that same year.

However, 22 pledges started Zeta Psi fraternity again last Spring Semester.

Scott Bohrer, president of Zeta Psi fraternity, said it was a coincidence that Alpha Epsilon Pi's contract to 225 E. Foster Ave. ended at the time when Zeta Psi fraternity needed the house.

Zeta Psi fraternity has doubled in membership since last spring and needs a bigger house to accommodate the needs of its members, said Bohrer (sophomore-political science).

"The last thing I would want to do is see a strong fraternity removed from the house," Bohrer said. "But on the other hand, it is our house and we are eager to get it back."

Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity is not resentful of Zeta Psi fraternity for moving to back into the house, said Getto (junior-psychology).

"We knew this was coming all along," Getto said. "We knew we had to decide whether to stay or not."

Getto said Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity is considering several options for its new residence.

"We will make a final decision before the end of the semester," he said. "I have no doubt that Alpha Epsilon Pi will have a better home for next year."
