Peterson to run for re-election
U.S. Rep. John Peterson, R-Pa., announced yesterday his intent
to seek re-election for a second term representing the 5th Congressional
District.
The 5th Congressional district includes all of Cameron, Clarion,
Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Tioga, Venango
and Warren counties and parts of Armstrong, Centre, Clearfield,
Crawford, Lycoming and Union counties.
Peterson was elected to his first term as a representative in
1996, filling retiring Rep. Bill Clinger's seat.
In Washington, D.C., Peterson was appointed to two committees
during his freshman term. He serves on the Education and Workforce
Committee and the Resources Committee.
Previously, Peterson was elected to the state House in 1977 and
served as a state senator in the 25th District for three terms.
Andrea Andrews, press secretary for Peterson, said he will continue
to work for economic development, job creation, education, private
property rights and rural healthcare in the district.
"Those will continue to be top priorities for him,"
Andrews said.
Primary elections are May 19.
