Trackmen take second at IC4As
While the majority of students were on break, the Penn State men's
indoor track team competed in the Intercollegiate Association
of Amateur Athletics of America (IC4A) Championships March 7-8.
At the IC4As, the Lions had a strong showing but couldn't overtake
five-time defending champion Georgetown, which won the competition
with 81 points. The Lions finished in second place with 65 points.
The Lions brought home three first-place finishes in the 4x800
meter relay, the long jump and the pentathlon. In the 4x800 meter
relay, the Lions finished with a time of 7 minutes, 33.38 seconds.
John Gorham continued his strong season in the long jump, winning
the competition with a mark of 25-4. Coming off his strong showing
at the Big Ten Championship, Jaime Cook was crowned the pentathlon
champion with 3911 points.
Other top finishers were Joe Loner in the 800 meters, Ben Karcz
in the 500 meters and Neal McNutt in the 35-pound weight throw.
Loner finished second in the 800 with a time of 1:51.60.
Penn's Robin Martin won the race with a time of 1:51.20. Freshman
Karcz continues to gain experience finishing third in the 500
meter, crossing the line at 1:03.29. McNutt finished second in
the throwing competition with a toss of 65-9 3/4. McNutt finished
behind Dan Bourque from South Connecticut who won with a mark
of 70-1 1/2.
