USG Senate approves commissioners, court

With candidate registration for Undergraduate Student Government elections less than two weeks away, the USG Senate has appointed the final Elections Commission Board of Commissioners, special prosecutor and Elections Court.

The duties of the elections commission include overseeing voting and tallying of votes, regulating campaigning and candidacy and organizing debate and publicity.

This year, members on the board of commissioners are:

  • Head commissioner: Tracy Greca (senior-international business and economics)

  • Candidacy and campaigning: Scott Husbands (senior-political science)

  • Debate and publicity: Scott Nycum (senior-biology)

  • Voting and tallying: James Salva (senior-English and biology)

In addition, the senate nominated Elizabeth Silvia (sophomore-human development and family studies) to be the elections commission special prosecutor, who will represent the commission in front the elections court.

The senate also nominated a five-member elections court to extend jurisdiction over any cases concerning candidates violating the elections code and prejudicial treatment of a candidate by the elections commission.

Members of the elections court are:

  • Aimee Deane (sophomore-public relations)

  • Duane Gildea (sophomore-human development and family studies)

  • Michelle Mull (sophomore-secondary education social studies)

  • James Shaffer (junior-finance)

  • Samantha Woolf (sophomore-political science)

Candidates for USG president and vice president must register by 7 p.m. March 16 to be on the ballot. Senate candidates must register by noon March 18. The elections will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 1, and results will be announced that evening.
