Announcements from Shields

STUDENT AID:

1998-99 Application Process

Important! 1998-99 awarding for continuing and graduate students will occur in June.

Complete your 1997 tax returns and then file the 1998-99 FAFSA using actual tax information.

Using correct, accurate income information will decrease delays in the application process and will not require verification of your income later.

We strongly encourage you to file your FAFSA using the web. It's faster and it won't allow you to make errors that cause delays in the process. You can access the FAFSA on the web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Are You Thinking About Dropping Credits?

Students need to be aware that dropping credits, either from full-time to part-time or from part-time to a lesser credit load, may have the following implications on the financial aid they are currently receiving and aid eligibility in future years:

1. All students who are receiving Federal Pell Grants who are dropping credits that either bring them under full-time enrollment or reduce their part-time enrollment will have their award value adjusted down to their current credit load.

This may result in a balance due in the student account.

2. Satisfactory academic progress may be affected in future years if students taking less than 12 credits do not complete the courses for which they originally registered.

Remember that students are expected to complete the course work they begin to be eligible for future student aid based on federal and state regulations.
