Folk star DiFranco to play on campus
The queen of independent rock is coming to the University.
Ani DiFranco, founder of her own label, Righteous Babe Records,
will play at 8 p.m. April 8 at Eisenhower Auditorium.
Tickets for the show will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at
the Center for the Performing Arts ticket center at the auditorium.
There is a six-ticket limit per person.
DiFranco has continually defied large record companies by becoming
successful on her own, never signing a major-label record deal.
She has been described as "a folkie in punks clothing,"
and her music delves into a variety of issues such as rape, abortion
and sexism.
"What I like about her lyrics is that she's a real feminist.
She's been called the 'Folk Poet of Buffalo,' " said Robin
Conklin, marketing representative for the Center for the Performing
Arts. "I'm really looking forward to the show."
This will be DiFranco's first show at the University.
