Lady spikers sign three top recruits
After a runner-up finish in the NCAA tournament, the Penn State
women's volleyball team has received letters of intent from three
top-notch high school seniors.
Shannon Bortner, Mishka Levy and Amanda Rome announced they will
attend Penn State in the fall.
Bortner, a 6-foot setter at Dallastown High School was the 1996
and '97 Pennsylvania Player of the Year.
Levy hails from Stafford, Texas where she attended Episcopal High
School. She is a 6-foot-2 middle hitter who was named a second-team
all-American by Volleyball Magazine this past season.
Rome is a 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Chaska, Minn. She led
Chaska High School to three AA Minnesota state championships,
and was named a first-team all-American by Volleyball Magazine
in 1997.
The Lady Lions will return five starters from the 1997 squad that
went 34-2, won the Big Ten championship and fell to Stanford in
the championship.
