Local woman hit by tractor-trailer

A 67-year-old State College woman was struck Saturday by the cab of a tractor-trailer truck driven by another State College resident, the State College Police Department said.

Dina Akimova of 301 Rolling Ridge Dr. was crossing East Branch Road with her grandson just before 7 p.m. when she was struck by a truck driven by Charles Hutchens, State College police said. Hutchens was traveling down South Atherton Street and attempted to make a left turn onto East Branch Road, State College police said. Akimova's grandson did not sustain any injuries, State College police said.

Akimova sustained head injuries and was flown by helicopter to Hershey Medical Center. She was out of the intensive care unit and in good condition yesterday, said a spokesperson for the medical center.
