McKeesport marks 50th anniversary
"A Campus for All Seasons" is the theme of the Commonwealth
College's McKeesport Campus 50th anniversary celebration, according
to a news release. A 50th anniversary celebration tea will be
held Feb. 28, co-sponsored by the Penn State McKeesport Advisory
Board and JoAnne Burley, campus executive officer, according to
the release.
The 50th anniversary tea will consist of a number of student chairs
from various organizations at the campus, the Student Government
Association, and faculty and staff from the campus, said Peter
Irvine, chairman of the 50th anniversary committee. Speakers will
talk about the past, present and future of the campus, he said.
"Fifty years of service to the community is quite a milestone,"
Irvine said in a news release. "We hope to leave something
tangible on the campus to commemorate this event for future generations.
At the same time, we want to celebrate the occasion in true Penn
State style."
The Alumni Association and the Student Government Association
are also planning events to celebrate the anniversary.
"Plans have been made for the campus students to be included
in all of the events," said Danielle Auretto (sophomore-prelaw),
a student at McKeesport.
