Police patrol Ridge Ave. after residents complain

The State College Police Department has stepped up enforcement of traffic violations on Ridge Avenue in East College Heights, according to a news release from State College police.

Between Jan. 30 and Tuesday, State College police issued a total of 11 traffic citations to motorists on Ridge Avenue and North Atherton Street, according to the release. The cost of a citation is $92.50.

Many motorists use Ridge Avenue as a shortcut to bypass the East College Heights traffic diverters. Drivers are prohibited from traveling westbound on the 200 block of Ridge Avenue to access North Atherton Street between 4 and 6 p.m. weekdays. Also prohibited during certain hours are left-hand turns from North Atherton Street onto Ridge Avenue.

The increased enforcement comes after several East College Heights residents said at Monday night's State College Borough Council meeting that they are disappointed with an increase in the amount of traffic on Ridge Avenue as a result of the East College Heights traffic diverters.
