Student arrested on charges of rape

A University student was committed to Centre County Prison Wednesday on a variety of charges ranging from rape to simple assault, University Police Services said.

Jeremy Gatto, 21, of 5502 Nittany Apartments, was arrested and arraigned Wednesday before District Justice Carmine Prestia on charges of rape, sexual assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and harassment, University police said. The charges stemmed from incidents occurring between November and December 1997 at Nittany Apartments, University police said.

Gatto is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, University police said.

Gatto was also arraigned on a charge of criminal attempt of sexual assault that resulted from an incident Jan. 25 at Nittany Apartments.

Gatto's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
