Nominees for the positions of Interfraternity Council president,
executive vice president and treasurer gave speeches at an IFC
meeting last night at Kappa Sigma fraternity, 255 Highland Ave.
Two nominees, however, chose to decline their nominations. Jack
Graham of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, 524 Locust Lane, declined
his IFC presidential nomination. Rick Flounders of Phi Gamma Delta,
319 N. Burrowes Road, was removed from the list of nominees for
treasurer because he will be abroad next year.
The remaining nominees for IFC president are Kris Krajewski, Kappa
Alpha Order fraternity, 329 E. Prospect Ave., and Brad Nestico,
Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, 417 E. Prospect Ave.
Krajewski (junior-journalism), said his primary goal is to establish
clear lines of communication between IFC and chapter members.
"I envision an IFC that doesn't enforce and punish,"
Krajewski said. "I envision a fraternal community united
by our shared ideals and our shared experiences."
Nestico said because of his past experience as IFC secretary,
the next logical step was to run for IFC president.
"My goal is to create unity in the system," said Nestico
(junior-marketing). "With 55 chapters and some proposing
to be chapters, we need to bring the system together."
Executive vice president nominees are Brian Eckert, Lambda Chi
Alpha fraternity, 351 E. Fairmount Ave., and Peter Krow, Beta
Theta Pi fraternity, 220 N. Burrowes Road.
Eckert (junior-letters, arts and sciences) said his involvement
with IFC as chairman of chapter programs prompted him to run for
executive vice president.
"Two of my main goals are to build more unity in our system
by building relations with each other and to continue to work
with community relations," Eckert said.
Krow (sophomore-finance) said he had strong leadership skills
and realistic answers to offer IFC and the chapter members.
"I want to see IFC make a significant physical and lasting
contribution to the community and University," Krow said.
The nominees for treasurer are Tim Bresnahan, Beta Theta Pi fraternity,
and Ruari Monahan, Sigma Chi fraternity, 400 E. Prospect Ave.
Some of Bresnahan's goals are better service and communication,
he said.
"I'd like to get better communication through chapter treasurers
by creating a series of workshops to help the entire system improve
their individual financial stability," Bresnahan (junior-premedicine)
said. "We're only as strong as our weakest link."
Bresnahan said he would also create an IFC scholarship for chapters
showing the most improvement from semester to semester.
Monahan (sophomore-management science and information systems)
said he would implement individual committees for each of the
IFC branches.
"I feel that I can shed a new light on the executive committee
and give it a new flavor," Monahan said. "I'd like it
to become more responsive to each of the chapter's needs."
