Announcements from Shields

STUDENT AID: 1998-99 APPLICATION PROCESS

Important.- 1998-99 awarding for continuing and graduate students will occur in June. We ask that you complete your 1997 tax returns and then file the 1998-99 FAFSA using actual tax information. Using correct, accurate income information will decrease delays in the application process and will not require verification of your income later.

Use the World Wide Web! - We strongly encourage you to file your FAFSA using the Web. There will be less room for error. You will be less likely to have to provide income information to the Office of Student Aid in order to verify your application information. You can access the FAFSA on the Web site at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT DROPPING CREDITS?

Students need to be aware that dropping credits, either from full-time to part-time or from part-time to a lesser credit load, may have the following implications on aid they are currently receiving and their aid eligibility in future years.

1. Aid award values may decrease for students who drop below full-time status. All students who are receiving Federal Pell Grants who are dropping credits that either bring them under full-time enrollment or reduce their part-time enrollment will have their award value adjusted down to their current credit load. This may result in a balance due in the student account.

2. Satisfactory academic progress may be affected in future years if a student who is taking less than 12 credits does not complete the courses for which they originally registered.

Remember that students are expected to complete the course work that they begin to be eligible for future student aid based on federal and state regulations.

REGISTRAR: IMPORTANT SPRING 1998 REGISTRATION INFORMATION

On Friday, all students who have not processed their semester bills or resolved any registration holds, will have their Spring semester course schedules canceled. If you are uncertain of your registration status, access caais.psu.edu, and select OASIS. Select "Your Course Schedule" and view your Spring 1998 course schedule. If the message at the bottom of your schedule indicates your registration is NOT complete, you need to contact the offices indicated in the message area.

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ADDRESS

As the new semester begins, it is important for you to have correct home, local and billing (if different from your home) addresses on file with the University. Please take time to update your addresses by using the CAAIS system, asking your department to update them, or coming to the Registrar's office. To have your billing address be different from your home address, you must file a request through the Bursar's Office in Shields Building.

SET YOUR BILLING STATUS

Are you tired of receiving a full-time tuition bill when you are attending part-time? You can solve this problem! Here's what

you need to do when you call the Registrar's voice response system at 863-9000. Select "Check Your Billing Status", option No. 6 on the

registration menu and follow the instructions. Taking this action will allow the bursar to bill you for the correct part-time tuition/fee amount.

REMINDER TO STUDENTS WHO PLAN TO GRADUATE SPRING 1998

The deadline to activate your intent to graduate via the telephone system has passed. To be added or removed from the graduation list at this time, undergraduate students need to contact their college (or department) office and graduate students need to contact the Office of Graduate Enrollment Services.

SCHEDULE OF COURSES

The schedule of courses for both Summer Sessions 1998 and Fall 1998 is now available on the web though the Registrar's home page: www.psu.edu/registrar.
