Day of remembrance
Members of the community share their feelings during the Martin
Luther King Jr. 1998 Commemorative Bell Ringing, held yesterday
in the lobby of Old Main.
"I think this program can teach (the elementary students)
that civil rights doesn't just affect minorities, it affects all
of us," said Kevonna Jones (sophomore-finance and international
business).
"He didn't like prejudice and he tried to stop it,"
said Maria Romasco, a student at Park Forest Elementary, 2180
School Drive, who came to hear others speak.
"I liked the bells and the music and this building,"
said Joon Ho Lee, a fifth-grade student from Fairmount Avenue
Elementary School, 411 S. Fraser St.
"Children are honest and candid . . . and I think we need
to hear it straight from the heart," said Lydia Abdullah,
a senior budget planning specialist for the University. "I've
had the good fortune of having a lot of goods and services donated."
"He was a very special man," said Brady Rees, a second-grade
student from Park Forrest Elementary School, 2181 School Dr.
