Wedler to run for Pa. Senate

Vicki Wedler, chairwoman of the Centre County Board of Commmissioners, announced yesterday that she will be a candidate for the state Senator seat for Pennswylvania's 34th district.

The 34th district includes Centre County.

The first woman elected commissioner of the county, Wedler said she has served in office for three four-year terms. She added that she will make a formal announement at a later time.

"I have the opportunity to take experience . . . to the (state) Senate and to a larger community," she said.

Wedler is looking to fill the seat state Sen. J. Doyle Corman, R-Centre, is vacating, according to a new release. Corman is retiring after serving on the senate since 1977, according to the release.

"And unlike Joe Paterno, who never grows old, but more like Jerry Seinfeld, I believe there is a time to retire and, for me, I believe the time is now," he said in the release.

Corman said he plans to remain politically active both locally and in the state.
