First all-USG meeting to be held Sat. evening

For the first time in recent memory, Undergraduate Student Government will hold a meeting for all its members.

CORRECTION:: This article gave the incorrect date for the Undergraduate Student Government outreach committee meeting. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The purpose of the meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, is to solve communication problems among the different branches of USG, said Geoff Ramont, chairman of USG's Outreach Committee.

"I don't want to be part of an organization that is scattered and looked upon negatively," Ramont said at Wednesday's committee meeting.

Leaders from all branches of USG will speak at the meeting and all USG members will have a chance to speak during an open forum.

The idea for the meeting comes from the committee's goal of improving relations within USG, a task the committee refers to as "inreach."

The committee hopes to continue the meetings, making them a regular function of USG, Ramont said.

"Just the fact that we're all there and we're all interacting is a start," said Jeff Schlanger, head of USG's Communication Department.

The USG Senate, Academic Assembly, Supreme Court and Executive Branch committees all meet regularly, but have never met in a large meeting together.
