Fall from grace
Way back in mid-November, on a day now buried beneath heaps of rumors and apologies, Curtis Enis was just a football player.

New Year's Nightmare
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The patch of green grass separating pigskin from goal line was about the size of the average male sneaker.

The Nittany Lions needed a lunge, a push, a surge. Perhaps the ever-popular quarterback sneak. Maybe a bootleg, where quarterback Mike McQueary could roll out and hit an open receiver in the flat.

No Enis in backfield spells ineffective ground game for Lions
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Nobody seemed eager to talk about it afterwards, but the topic of Curtis Enis' absence from Penn State's 21-6 loss to Florida in the Citrus Bowl simply could not be avoided.

Gator defense outshines Gator offense, stymies Lions
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Although the Florida offense received most of the press prior to the Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl against Penn State, it was the Gator defense that ultimately provided the press necessary for a convincing 21-6 Florida victory.

Rejuvenated Lion defense performs admirably in defeat
ORLANDO, Fla. -- It was difficult to read the emotion in Justin Kurpeikis' eyes.

On one hand, he seemed happy to have finally earned a start on the defensive line for the Nittany Lions.

Taylor made
ORLANDO, Fla. -- During a team meeting on the evening before Florida's 21-6 win against Penn State in the Citrus Bowl, Gator coach Steve Spurrier issued a pearl of wisdom to the Florida players who would be appearing for the final time in an orange and blue Gator uniform the next afternoon. He told them their careers were only as good as their final games.

Paterno to explore changes in attempt to right Lion ship
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The morning after Penn State's 21-6 loss to Florida in the Citrus Bowl, Penn State coach Joe Paterno let everyone in on his little secret.

Icers hurdle Iowa State, begin new year No. 1
The Penn State ice hockey team began the new year with a new No. 1 ranking in the ACHA. After chasing Iowa State for the No. 1 spot the entire season, the Icers finally jumped into the top spot because of several strong showings in late 1997, coupled with two Iowa State losses.
