Students' baseball bat battle results in charges of assault

A University student was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after hitting another University student in the head with a baseball bat early yesterday morning, the State College Police Department said.

CORRECTION:: An article in The Daily Collegian yesterday incorrectly identified one person as being solely responsible for kicking open a door at 311 Penn Tower. Daniel J. Kollock of 320 E. Beaver Ave. was one of several individuals who forced the door open after they had water poured on them.

Police said Anthony P. Panarello of 255 E. Beaver Ave. hit Daniel J. Kollock of 320 E. Beaver Ave. with a bat after Kollock kicked open the door of Panarello's 311 Penn Tower apartment.

Kollock, 20, was angry that someone from Panarello's apartment had thrown water at him while he was walking on East Beaver Avenue at about 5 a.m., police said, and ran up to the apartment. A witness at the scene told police Panarello, 23, threw the water, police added.

Kollock was treated and released from Centre Community Hospital.

Panarello was also charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment/stalking in connection with the incident. He was arraigned before District Justice Carmine Prestia Jr. and released in lieu of $5,000 bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 9.
