Reader Opinion
'Reporter's Notebook' a misleading viewpoint
March 25, The Daily Collegian
printed an article that appeared better suited for the opinions page. In addition to a biased attitude,
my concern is that patently false and misleading information was
printed.
According to the "article," I have never spoken out
about general education. If I had been interviewed or if past
Board of Trustees minutes had been examined, it would have been
clear that I had spoken to the board on the issue of general education
and undergraduate education.
Secondly, I am distressed to see written that I have not "spoken
out on issues that affect many students." EVERY Penn State
issue affects students! Furthermore, I have spoken on topics ranging
from the Take A Stand Rally to Housing and Food Services to undergraduate
research to the Geisinger merger at these meetings.
Finally, at the end of the "article," an extremely misleading
statement was made that makes it appear as if I am going to retain
my position after graduation. After a quick glance at the rest
of the paper, one would see both an article and a display ad that
describe the selection of the next Student Trustee taking place
this semester.
The Collegian has a responsibility to the students to print honest,
well-researched articles. That standard was certainly not met
in this case!
