Run for itThe deadline to run for USG is rapidly approaching
Are you tired of not knowing who your adviser is? Do you wish
students' voices carried more weight in the offices of Old Main?
Are you completely satisfied with everything at the University
and how it's run?
If you answered "yes" to the first two questions and
"no" to the last, then you should run for Undergraduate
Student Government President, Vice President or Senator.
Anyone can run for USG, provided they are a full-time student
at University Park.
Deadlines to get on the ballot are rapidly approaching. If you
want to run for president or vice president, you and your running
mate must submit 500 signatures -- at least 35 from each election
district to 207 HUB by 7 p.m. on Monday, March 17.
If being a USG Senator is more your style, submit a petition of
50 signatures of people from the district in which you will be
running to 207 HUB by noon on Wednesday, March 19.
Yes, it can be expensive to run for USG president or vice president.
But don't let that discourage you from running.
Quality candidates are not built on money alone. If money is a
big issue, run for a position in the senate. It's cheaper and
you can still represent the issues of your constituency.
If a cock and a fish could take the initiative to run for president
and vice president of USG last year, there is no reason why any
student who reads this, and who has the best interest of the students
and this University at heart, should not run for office.
Of course, just thinking it would be cool to be president or vice
president is hardly the reason to get 500 signatures.
We would hope that those who choose to run for this office and
that of senator are familiar with this University and the way
it operates, USG and how it tries to operate. We would hope they
know how to stand up to the administration and make the students'
needs taken seriously in Old Main and by the State College Borough
Council.
So, go run for USG. If you do it right, it's the toughest job
you'll ever love.
Election packets are available in 203 HUB. They can be signed
out until Friday and must be returned March 17. |
