PSUVO elects new leaders, hopes for profitable future

The newly elected president of the Pennsylvania State University Veterans Organization (PSUVO) said she would like to raise membership and get the club more active in the University and town community.

Julie Carter (junior-international business/marketing), a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, also plans to continue the push to raise money for the veteran's scholarship and for the organization.

"I feel like I have a lot to give to the club and this is the best way I can do it," Carter said of her run for president.

Other officers elected at the organization's last meeting include: Christopher Merritt (sophomore-administration of justice) for vice president and John Barton (junior-international business/business logistics) for treasurer.

PSUVO is a social organization meant to provide an educational medium for veterans. It also provides mutual support for veterans in assisting them with problems, said out-going president Stephen Carli (senior-kinesiology).

"I think the group is moving in a very positive direction," Carli said, noting that membership has gone up.

Continuing the push for the veteran's scholarship is one of the most important efforts the club is undertaking, Carli said.

While looking back on the past year, the ballroom dance the club held last Veterans Day was one of his proudest moments, Carli said.

"I was very proud to speak in front of everyone," he said.
