Four construction workers and a bank employee at PNC Bank, 1408 N. Atherton St., were overcome by carbon monoxide fumes at about 7 p.m. last night, Alpha Fire Co. Chief Steve Lower said.

George Washington Carver (1864-1943) was an American educator and an outstanding innovator in the agricultural sciences. Carter was born of slave parents near Diamond, Mo. He left the farm where he was born when he was about 10 years old and eventually settled in Minneapolis, Kan. where he worked his way through high school.

Local tavern employees charged with serving alcohol to a minor
State College Police Department filed charges Monday against two employees at Stoney's Posthouse Tavern, 146 N. Atherton St., for serving a 20-year-old employee alcoholic beverages Jan. 26. The employee, Benjamin J. Dreibelbis later left the bar, went to an apartment on Bellaire Avenue, and died of a heroin overdose.
