After nearly two weeks of discussion and information gathering,
the Association of Residence Hall Students voted to send their
recommendations to the Center for Academic Computing regarding
the implementation of resident computer consultants in all dorms.
"It's going to happen. I think we all agree it's basically
a good idea," said Jason Sidener, Pollock/Nittany Residence
Hall Association representative. "CAC knows we're upset we
weren't included in the planning process. This is our chance to
get in on the implementation process."
ARHS voted to draft a letter to CAC and the Office of Housing
and Food Services recommending:
- ARHS be informed about the costs to the students
- improvements in the supervision and accountability of the
RCCs
- a re-examination of the number of hours, the area RCCs could
work and the availability of RCCs to the students
- CAC continue to work to improve the quality of the computer
labs
- the training process for the RCCs be improved to guarantee
they could solve most basic problems
ARHS also discussed the possibility of conducting a survey, to
be attached to the Office of Residence Life Quality of Life survey,
to monitor how the students like the service. The concern about
charging students who don't have computers in their rooms was
also addressed.
"We have the option of using those services (that we pay
for). We don't have that option if we don't have computers in
our room," ARHS Vice President Larry Paseornek said.
A suggestion was made by Public Relations Director Beth Rosevearto
that would allow students to decide if their money would go to
the RCC program or the upkeep of the computer labs .
