Raffle to benefit cancer yields premium parking

The Undergraduate Student Government may have found the solution to the parking problems on campus -- give students the administrators' parking spaces.

USG is not giving away just any administrators' spaces. They're going right to the top -- University President Graham Spanier, Vice President for Student Affairs William Asbury and Executive Vice President and Provost John Brighton. Even Student Trustee Nathan Nair is donating his parking spot -- for one day, at least.

"I would love to park in Dr. Spanier's parking space -- pass all my friends and pull right in there," said USG Vice President Ed Kilpela. "I guess they are going to have to feed the meter like the rest of us do every day."

The four parking spots will be awarded to the winners of a raffle for the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-Point Attack.

The philanthropy is a nationwide program with college basketball teams which raises donations for every 3-pointer made by the men's and women's basketball team this season, Kilpela said. All money raised benefits the American Cancer Society.

Raffle winners can park in the prime spots for one day -- Feb. 25. Winners also receive a dinner for two at The Corner Room, 100 W. College Ave., and two tickets for the match-up between Penn State and Illinois tomorrow.

Raffle tickets are available in 203A HUB for $1 apiece.

The drawing will be held later tonight.
