Man charged in Wildwood, N. J. beating not a University student
A 20-year-old man who told Wildwood, N.J., police he was a Penn
State student when he was arrested in the beating death of a North
Wildwood man is not enrolled in the University, said University
news bureau manager Christy Rambeau.
The Wildwood Police Department said in a news release on Saturday
that Christopher Short of Philadelphia, who is charged with second-degree
manslaughter and conspiracy in connection with the beating death
of John Vollrath outside a Wildwood bar early Saturday morning,
is currently a student at Penn State University.
But Rambeau said that Short was last enrolled as a nondegree student
in Spring Semester 1996 and is not currently affiliated with the
University.
Short told police he was a University student when they asked
what his occupation was, but police did not attempt to confirm
that information, said Wildwood Police Chief Robert Davenport.
Short and his brother Adam, 18, who is also charged with second-degree
manslaughter and conspiracy in connection with the incident, both
posted $100,000 bonds and are out on bail, Davenport said. Joseph
Mader, 21, the third person charged, is still being held in Cape
May County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, Davenport added.
Police were not releasing any further information yesterday.
