ARHS elects officers, not many new faces

The Association of Residence Hall Students will be welcoming back some familiar executives and some new faces to its executive positions this year.

Brian Youngblood, president of Pollock/Nittany Residence Hall Association, was elected president of ARHS and ARHS Vice President Larry Paseornek was re-elected for another term.

Both were unopposed and expressed an interest in making ARHS more of a close-knit team as it moves towards the future.

"We're not about showing movies," Youngblood said. "This organization can do so much more."

South Halls Residence Hall Association President Derek Van Reymersdal defeated Public Relations Committee Chair Beth Rosevear for the position of executive vice president after a second vote was taken.

Concerns were expressed about both candidates. Some council members said Van Reymersdal had not exhibited enough leadership abilities during his tenure as SHRA President and Council Development Committee chair. Rosevear's time commitment problems were also a subject of debate.

Before the elections, Van Reymersdal said he was optimistic about working with the other executives.

"I know the two people you've elected and I can work with them," he said.
