Crow concert supports 'Thon

Until this year, there were only a few ways for students to help
raise money for dance marathon.
However, dancing and canning are no longer the only ways students
can get involved.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the University Concert Committee
and MBNA America, some of the proceeds from the Sheryl Crow concert
on Feb. 17 at Rec Hall will go to the Four Diamonds Fund.
"MBNA was interested in doing something fun for students
that would also forward 'Thon's efforts through fund raising,"
said Carol German, assistant director of Student Life and UCC
advisor.
After the concert's sponsors UCC and MBNA cover the costs of the
show, they will donate the remaining proceeds to dance marathon.
As of Wednesday, enough tickets have been sold to cover costs,
so each $20 ticket sold from this point on will benefit the cause.
The exact amount of the donation will be determined by ticket
sales. So, even after dance marathon is over on Sunday night there
will still be a way for students to raise money.
In an effort to boost ticket sales, spirit points were offered
in the HUB basement to members of organizations participating
in the dance marathon.
This is not the first time that MBNA and UCC have lent their assistance
to dance marathon, though.
UCC has been involved with the sound production and staging of
the entertainment at dance marathon, and MBNA has helped dance
marathon through sponsorships and donations many times in the
past.
"MBNA and 'Thon have always shared a great partnership,"
said rules and regulations chairman Tony Lombardo (senior-health
policy and administration).
The Sheryl Crow concert, with opening act The Wallflowers, is
at 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at Rec Hall. Ticket price is $20 for Penn State
students with ID, and $22 for non-students. And, as of now, all
remaining proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to dance
marathon.
