Late-night party-goers and pedestrians stood in stunned silence as police and others unsuccessfully administered CPR to Leigh Anne Prevatte on the sidewalk of East Beaver Avenue.

Prevatte was at a party at 611 Alexander Court, 309 E. Beaver Ave., where she and another woman were leaning out of adjacent windows just before Prevatte fell six stories onto the sidewalk below at about 2:30 a.m., the State College Police Department said.

She was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m. yesterday morning, said Lorella Thomas, clinical coordinator at Centre Community Hospital.

While police have ruled the death accidental, an investigation continues "into the matter of Leigh Prevatte being provided alcohol at the party while being under the age of twenty-one," police said in a news release. Police would not comment further about the possibility that alcohol played a role in Prevatte's death.

"We have had officers working on the investigation since it was called in," State College police Cpl. J.T. Gardner said yesterday.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the office of Centre County Coroner Rich Kelley. Kelley and University Police Services assisted State College police at the scene yesterday morning.

Residents of 611 Alexander Court were not available yesterday afternoon to comment about the incident, according to Jim Debelak (junior-education), a friend who answered their door yesterday. The residents of the apartment are Wayne Stephens, Jason Bakes, Matt Hobbie, Jeff Taylor and Rob Miller, Debelak said.

Prevatte's roommates did not want to comment yesterday.

A.W. & Sons, owners of Alexander Court, have been advised by police not to comment on the incident, said general manager Leo P. DeLorenzo.

"We wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize their investigation," DeLorenzo said.

Prevatte, who lived at 709 Alexander Court, was from Fogelsville, and was a junior majoring in biobehavioral health. She was a 1994 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School.
