Dear Athletic Director Tim Curley,
Thank you for your quick and sincere response to the problem presented
to you by members of the lesbian, gay and bisexual community.
When they came to you at the end of Fall Semester and told you
it was unfair that same-sex couples could not purchase football
and basketball tickets for their partners at the reduced spousal
rate, you saw the problem and promised to rectify it.
And you did. Starting Fall Semester 1997, same-sex partners of
students will be granted the same reduced rate for tickets that
students' spouses now receive.
By letting moral concerns guide you, instead of hiding behind
bureaucratic obstacles, you showed an honest concern for the people
involved.
We appreciate that and hope you will feel good, knowing you have
helped people.
Please copy and send via E-mail

Dear University President Graham Spanier,
Thank you for finally listening to the lesbian, gay and bisexual
members of your faculty and staff.
After years of complaints, you have extended domestic partner
benefits to same-sex couples. Finally, the University is living
up to its nondiscrimination clause, which promises Penn State
will not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.
We understand that you thought you had to deal with the bureaucracy
and politics of changing the policy before you could help the
people involved. It's a shame it had to work that way. And, needless
to say, it's a shame that so many people had to suffer before
the policy was changed, but we're glad it finally happened.
We're glad Penn State has decided, at last, to follow the example
other Big Ten schools have set.
Now lesbian, gay and bisexual members of your faculty, staff and
student body can feel the University is living up to the ideals
it teaches and promises.
Thank you very much. |
